Relay Bike Share Expansion
To build a strong base of bike share users in Atlanta’s westside neighborhoods, the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, the City of Atlanta, and several community organizations received grant funding to launch the "Atlanta Bike Champions" in 2016-2017. As the inaugural cohort for this new program, my neighbors and I managed community outreach and education about biking and bike share in Atlanta’s westside neighborhoods, as well as shaping the program as a whole. Together, my neighbors and I expanded the Relay Bike Share system from 100 bikes to 500 bikes, 22 stations to 65 stations and to 15 neighborhoods generating 8,000 unique trips. We also provided free bicycle safety education through classes, rides, and school initiatives as well as structured the next iteration of the program.
Our efforts were featured as an international “model for inclusive bike share” by the Institute of Transportation and Development Policy.
What Counts in Mobility? Improving Planning Tools for a Multi-Modal Future
Models are used to make decisions about transportation projects that have major implications on the landscape of the future. However, most laypeople don’t understand them, if they are even aware of them, and they largely lead to expanding roads and building highways. What if transportation advocates better understood this tool, in order to advocate for a more sustainable future, a future that included access to better transportation options?
I served as project manager for the creation of this report, including pitching this project, writing the scope of work, and delivering the materials with local agencies. The main purposes of this project were to make the technical aspects of modeling more accessible to non-engineers, understand how models affect decision making; and to use that understanding to make recommendations for improvement to the model and to the transportation planning process as a whole. You can find the whole report here.
Westside Revive: A Master Plan for Council District 3 - Adopted March 2019
The purpose of the Council District 3 Neighborhood Master Plan is to establish the vision, goals, and implementation strategies for the redevelopment of the neighborhoods within Council District 3. In this plan, I was Mobility lead for the project team, responsible for mapping, data collection, and transportation recommendations for each subarea. This plan was adopted by Ordinance of the City Council and approved by the Mayor of Atlanta and incorporated into the Comprehensive Development Plan in March 2019.
The Centre for Urban Design and Mental Health - Atlanta Case Study (Ongoing)
Urban design and mental health city case studies examine how different cities around the world apply the key principles of urban design towards population mental health. They provide insight, spotlight innovation, identify opportunities for that city to improve population mental health, and offer lessons for other cities. They are conducted using the UD/MH city case study method.
This is an ongoing independent research study I am engaging with two colleauges.
